DOSAGE FORM: Chewable tablets.
PRESENTATION: Box of 1 blister x 1 tablet.
ACTIONS: Fubenzon with the main active ingredient mebendazole is benzimidazol derivative with broad spectrum against helminths. The drug is highly effective on the adult and larval stages of roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), hairworm (Tricuris trichiura), hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale), beakworms (Necator americanus) and Capillaria philippinensis. It also kills the eggs of roundworm and hairworm. In high doses, the drug has an effect on tapeworm cysts.
The drug works by inhibiting the synthesis of tubular microstructures that inhibit the reproduction of worms. In addition, the drug also inhibits irreversible worms' glucose uptake.
The oral bioavailability of the drug is less than 20%. However, absorption can be increased many times, if taken with food containing fat. About 95% of the drug is bound to plasma proteins. The drug is mainly metabolized in liver and excreted in bile into stool.
INDICATIONS: For treatment of cases of infection with one or more of the following types of worms: roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, hair pinworm and eel worm.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug. Pregnant. Severe liver disease.
PRECAUTIONS: Caution should be used when children under 2 years of age. There have been few reports of neutropenia and hepatic dysfunction, including hepatitis after prolonged use of mebendazole and higher than recommended doses.
PREGNANT WOMEN AND LACTATION:
Safety has not been established for pregnant women. Therefore, the drug should not be used for pregnant women, especially in the first 3 months of pregnancy. It is not clear whether the drug is secreted in breast milk, caution should be exercised when using the drug during breastfeeding.
DRIVING AND OPERATING MACHINERY:
The drug can cause dizziness, so be cautious when driving and operating machinery.
INTERACTIONS: Concurrent use with cimetidine may inhibit mebendazole metabolism in the liver, increasing the concentration of drugs in the blood. Concomitant administration with phenytoin or carbamazepine will reduce the concentration of mebendazole in plasma.
UNWANTED EFFECTS:
Uncommon: dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cases of worms crawling out of the mouth and nose.
Rarely: rash, urticaria, angioedema, convulsions.
Inform your doctor unwanted effects encountered when using the drug.
OVERDOSE AND TREATMENT:
When overdose, gastrointestinal disorders can last for several hours. Should cause vomiting and bleaching, can use activated carbon.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Chew the tablet before swallowing with a little water.
Adults and children over 2 years of age: 1 single pill (500 mg).
Remove worms periodically every 4-6 months with the above dose.
